Røros

Røros is a beautiful town with a unique church and a row of 100 wooden houses. It is a registered site on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. During winter, a traditional market called "Rørosmartnan" is organized, that draws many tourists and visitors each year. There is also an outdoor musical theatre performance played in Røros to commemorate the tragedy when a Swedish soldiers froze to death. Røros is also known for its copper mines.


Nidaros Cathedral (Nidarosdomen)

Nidaros Cathedral was constructed to be the tomb of the Viking king, Olav Tryggvasson (Saint Olav). Located in the centre of the city, this is where all successive Norwegian kings have carried out coronation festivities. In front of the Cathedral's west side is a brilliant statue that has been recently restored. Many features of the Cathedral are still preserved, including a gorgeous coronation crown, the courtly Johannes Kapellet, Saint Olav's altar and a beautifully decorated baroque organ.

Royal Palace (Det Kongelige Slott)

The royal palace was completed in 1848 for the royal family, but it was built by Karl Johan XIV

National Theater (Nationaltheatret)

The National Theatre is the largest in the country and has a history of over 100 years. Guided tours are available but reservations are necessary.

Aker Brygge

Aker Brygge is a modern shopping area that was converted from the former dock warehouse district of Oslo. This area has a wide variety of shops, 35 cafés, bars and restaurants. A theatre and cinema can also be found here. This is a great place for people to relax in.

Whale-Watching

Jiebmaluokta

Jiebmaluokta are ruins of the Komsa Kulturen that was accidentally discovered in 1973. It is registered as a World Heritage Site, featuring approximately 3000 wall paintings. It is divided into seven stages, ranging in height from 8m to 26.5m, and is estimated to be between 6500 and 2500 years old. You can see the wall paintings within the premises of the Alta museum.

Kristiansand

Kristiansand is Norway's 5th major city. It is a beautiful city, offering rows of antique architectural structures that face the coastline. The most visited sightseeing spots are the town's symbol, Kristiansand Cathedral and the Christiansholm Fortress.

Access: By plane, it takes approximately 1hour from Oslo, and approximately 1 hour from Bergen. By train, it takes around 5hours from Oslo, and approximately 3 hours from Stavanger.


Norwegian Folk Museum (Norsk Folkemuseum)

The Open-Air Museum features 155 authentic buildings from different national regions, i.e. Gol Stave Church, from the 13th century. At the museum you can experience and learn about traditional Norwegian culture and history.

Tromsø Cable Car (Fjellheisen)

The Tromso cable car climbs up Mt. Storsteinen, which has an altitude of 420m. From its peak, you have a panoramic view of Tromsø City and its surrounding areas. At the summit, there is also a restaurant (Fjellstua Restaurant), gift shop and a children's playground. You can get to the cable car boarding point on the 28 bus from Havnegata Street.

Karl Johans Street

Karl Johans Street is Oslo’s main mall and it stretches from Oslo Central Station to the Royal Palace. The street has a lovely café, restaurant and entertainment culture. The street is always bustling with people who come to enjoy Oslo. The street is also close to the Oslo Cathedral and the National Museum.


Ishavs Katedralen (Arctic Cathedral)

Also known as the sanctuary of the Arctic Ocean, the Artic Cathedral is modern architectural structure, which is based on a design that uses Tromsø's winter and northern lights as a motif, which suits the atmosphere of the town. The beautiful, stately stained glass panels inside are 12m high and are definitely worth seeing. The architect of this building is Jan Inge Hovig.

Karasjok

Karasjok is an a that has been a settlement for the mountain Sami people since olden days. The name "Karasjok" is believed to have originated from the Finish phrase meaning the cove's river. This region experiences drastic temperature changes, and has recorded a lowest-ever temperature of minus 51.4 degrees, and a highest-ever temperature of 32.4 degrees. There are also a theme park, museum, and other facilities that display the Sami culture.

Access: Approximately 1 hour 35 minutes from Lakselv Airport by bus.

The new museum is a merging of the previously autonomous institutions The National Gallery, The National Museum of Contemporary Art, The Museum of Decorative Arts and Design, The Norwegian Museum of Architecture, and The National Touring Exhibitions, Norway. Well worth a visit for visitors with an interest in art and design.
