Greenland

Greenland, also called Kalaallit Nunaat is the largest island in the world and more than half the residents of Greenland are Inuit. It’s untouched, harsh yet beautiful terrain is covered with snow and ice, consisting of magnificent glaciers, and deeply engraved fjords, offers the visitor a unique experience from summer cruises in the midnight sun, and whale watching to winter activities such as dog sledding and northern light viewing. The best season for viewing the northern lights in Greenland is between mid August and late March when the nights are long and the air is clear.

Greenland is part of the kingdom of Denmark, but is largely self-governed.

City Breaks in Greenland

Narsarsuaq

Narsaruaq is a small community with approximately 200 people mainly employed at the airport or the associated hotel. It is an independent facility with its own power station, harbor and workshops. Narsarsuaq is located at the deepest end of the Erik fjord, which is located south of the island. Most people fly into Narsarsuaq when travelling to Greenland.

Nuuk

Nuuk is the capital and largest city of Greenland. It is located at the mouth of the Nuup Kangerlua inlet on the west coast of Greenland, about 150 miles (240 km) south of the Arctic Circle. The city was founded in 1728 by the Norwegian missionary Hans Egede when Greenland was a Norwegian colony under the Dano-Norwegian Crown. Today Nuuk – as the rest of Greenland – is populated by Inuit and Danes.
