Denmark

Denmark is a small country made up of the Jutland Peninsula and over 500 islands with an abundance of places to visit. Denmark's capital city, Copenhagen, is located in Sjælland, an island bejeweled with ancient castles associated with the northern royal family. Hans Christian Andersen, the literary genius behind some of the world's most famous fairy tales, grew up in the town of Odense in Fyn. Christmas in Fantasy World – Zealand

Denmark’s latest indoor attraction, Fantasy World in Holme-Olstrup, will open a brand new cowboy city on the 24th of November 2007, housing the Christmas market: “Christmas in the Wild West”. Beyond the Christmas shopping opportunities, the market has a variety of fun fair rides and attractions, a cowboy fort, horse drawn carriages and restaurants.

Ribe - A leap back in time

Ribe is a charming town on Jutland in the south west of Denmark, close to the Wadden Sea. Dating back to the 8th century, the age of Vikings, it is the oldest town in Denmark.

Dyrehaven Park

Dyrehaven Park offers a great combination of outdoor activities such as cycling, trekking and horse riding but it also holds Bakken amusement park, one of the oldest in the world. Dyrehaven is a popular retreat for both locals and tourists who seek a bit of tranquility.

Borreby Castle (Borreby)

The Borreby Castel is the oldest renaissance-style construction in Denmark that is still standing. This astonishing castle appeared many times in Anderson's fairytales. It is located 3 km south of Skaelskor, south west of Zealand.

Tivoli Christmas Market

The Tivoli Christmas market in Copenhagen is a must during the winter season. The atmosphere is much like that of a small carnival, filled with the pungent smells of ginger cookies and glögg, Christmas carols and Danish arts & crafts. Fregatten Jylland

Fregatten Jylland is the longest wooden warship in the World. The boat is surrounded by a museum hall and Fregat Cafe, a ship building yard and a harbour for wooden ships. It is even possible to stay over at Fyrskib XXI or in a hammock at the frigate.

Århus

Århus is Denmark’s second largest city and has great atmosphere and vibrancy. Also dubbed the “Canon of Danish art & culture”, it has been at the forefront of defining Danish art and culture. Århus is also internationally known as a city of living music. Some of the biggest names on the Danish music scene started there and it is still the "kindergarten" for a rich musical environment in Denmark. There is plenty for a visitor to see and do in Arhus.

Old Stock Exchange (Børsen)

Completed in 1640 by command of Christian IV. An architectural structure with a distinctive twisted steeple that seems to reach for the sky, reputed as one of the masterpieces of Dutch Renaissance architecture. Since it is now used as an office building, its interior cannot be toured.


Ribe Cathedral

Ribe Cathedral (Ribe Domkirke) (Jutland + sights & attractions + arts&culture) Although this cathedral had two towers when it was first built in the 12th century, one of the towers collapsed on the night of Christmas in 1283, killing several people. The current tower was reconstructed in 1333.

Christian VIII's palæce

One of the four wings of Amalienborg Palace, located on the northern side, which has been opened to the public in 1994 and can be toured. Items that were actually used by the royal family between 1863 and 1947 are exhibited.

Christiansborg Castle

A part of Copenghagen called Slotholmen that witnessed the founding of Copenhagen after bishop Absalonof Roskilde constructed a fortress in 1167. Since it is surrounded by a trench for protection against enemies and dotted with historical buildings relating to the royal family, the entire area is similar to a vast museum.


Møn

Møn is an island in south-eastern Denmark. It is connected to Jutland with a bridge. Møn is known for its natural beauty, good beaches, fresco-decorated churches, Stone Age and Bronze Age passage graves and monuments, chateau Liselund, and Møns Klint ("The White Cliffs of Møn"), the island's most popular attraction. The main town of Mon is Stege and this town was established in the middle of the 13th century.
